Members News

Club Events which have been in recess because of the effects of COVID are now scheduled  to recommence. These are detailed below.

The Administrative Committee has a current policy requiring all patrons and visitors over the age of 12 to furnish either hard copy or electronic evidence of vaccination for admittance to the Club Rooms for all events. A Covid Marshall will check these upon visitor arrival. This procedure will not apply to Club Members whose vaccination status has previously been sighted under the Bowls SA “No Jab No Play” policy.

FRIDAY NIGHT MEALS

Friday Night Meals will recommence on Friday 18 February 2022  from 6.00pm with couples and groups most welcome to participate in a shared social occasion. Takeaway dishes are available, too, and customers are encouraged to enjoy a drink from our bar while waiting for their order to be filled.

Please remember to bring evidence of of your vaccination with you

SCHNITZEL NIGHT

The popular nights will be held again once per month with the first one in 2022 scheduled for WEDNESDAY 10 FEBRUARY AT 6.00 PM. Bookings are strongly advised for a choice of Beef or Chicken Schnitzels followed by icecream cones at the amazing cost of $15.00/head.  Booking Sheet is on the NEW NOTICE BOARD adjacent to the office in the Clubhouse. Please ensure that your name is on the board by FRIDAY 12 February.

Non-members: Please remember to bring evidence of your COVID vaccination with you.

Note, as well, the change of Schnitzel Night from Thursday to Wednesday.

UPDATES FROM THE  COMMITTEE

Members are referred to this category for a summary of issues from the Management Committee Minutes . A complete copy of the Minutes is available from a folder adjacent to the club telephone. Additional copies are placed on the General Notice Board in the breezeway

OTHER CLUB TOURNAMENTS

Displayed on the Breezeway Notice Board are several copies of current Club Tournaments. Members are encouraged, as well, to access the BowlsSA website for electronic notifications of club tournaments.

COVID

The PVMBC appreciates the cooperation of all visitors signing in,  wearing masks and complying with current COVID Safe regulations.

Exemptions from wearing masks are several and can be accessed from SA Health. However, Members are advised that  masks NEED NOT be worn by persons wearing “Hearing aids of a style that makes wearing masks difficult and where an alternative style of mask (with ties rather than ear loops) is not available.” or  “When a person is consuming food, drink or medicine”.

COVID Marshalls are the authorised persons within the Club to ensure compliance with COVID requirements.

THE MARINER’S REVIEW

Our third quarterly newsletter is being prepared and will be disseminated to members in February.

CLUB MEASURERS

Merrilyn Lovelock held a Measurer’s Course at the club on October 13. Five of our members were recommended for accreditation and they were: Kim Bolger, Eric Smith, Susan Sladek, John Hallas and Greg Hall.  Three other members were re-accredited and these were Ron Turnbull, David White and Lyn White. Thank you to all for your interest and willingness to represent our club in this role.

NOTEWORTHY EVENTS

Many members do supportive things around the club which are often not acknowledged. Our club is immaculately presented throughout the year through the efforts of Vanessa Germein who should rightly be lauded for her attention to detail.

The maintenance of the A green is time consuming and somewhat complex in the management of pesticides, watering, scarifying, mowing and rolling. Stormy has an experienced and determined crew who are working hard to present an immaculate green for the coming season. This  workforce includes Rob Marner, Don Barrand, Chris Coleman and Des Chambers who donate much time and effort to their designated duties. With support and advice from Brad Porter, and an incredible downpour, the A green is in superb condition.

Bryan Tuttle takes great pride in his responsibility for the B Green which also benefited from his shampooing just before the deluge. It, too is looking good!

Winter Bowls: Who could replicate the antics of ” Crazy” Chris Coleman “who  organises the Wednesday and Sunday Winter Bowls. As one wag observed, “We should charge admission to see Craze in action!” Then there’s Newton Lines who not only tells jokes of some sort but also regularly  manages the Chocolate Wheel with style and skill. A 2022 version of Winter bowls will begin once the Pennant Season is completed in March.

Bar

With the resumption of Club events, a new BAR ROSTER is being drawn up. This will be displayed within the Club and will be emailed to each member rostered who will be asked to arrange for a replacement should circumstances dictate their non-attendance. This will ensure that bar facilities are available for all Club events.

Please let the Secretary know of any members who  provide noteworthy support  of our club or the names of any who have been inadvertently omitted in other acknowledgements. The Club will be delighted to acclaim their contribution.

CLUB COMMUNICATION

An administrative priority is to improve the communication within the Club. A Quarterly Newsletter, “The Mariner’s Review” has begun with the next issue being published in February. This Web Site, www.portvincentmemorial.bowls.com.au  is available for quick access to information by those with internet facilities and expertise. Emails with essential information are sent to all members on a regular basis. The  Breezeway Notice Boards have been organised into categories and are regularly updated with old information discarded. At Club Events Members can expect to hear from the Club Executive on current matters and issues. A new Notice Board adjacent to the Office has been purchased to enable quick access by members to additional  and current information about Club events. It  includes calendars which record present and future Club events. Management Committee Meeting Minutes are exhibited on the Breezeway Notice Boards and, as in the past, in a folder next to the Club telephone. The generic club email, portvincent.bowls@gmail.com is another avenue for members to contact the Club on any issue and to communicate their concerns, ideas and thoughts. For more personal interaction, the Management Committee Executive and Committee is available to all members who wish to communicate on any issue or concern. In matters of Selection, a policy passed at the Open Meeting on September 20 provides the framework for team selection by an elected Selection Committee during the 2021-22 Season. Significantly, it includes a Complaints Process and Procedure to be followed by all members in the case of selection dissatisfaction or dispute. A copy of  the approved and accepted policy is exhibited on the Breezeway Notice Board. Members are invited and encouraged to contact the Club Secretary with additional ideas to improve communication within the Club.
